Location: Maine
1. Certifications: B.S. or Pharm.D.
2. Licensure: Maine licensure required.
3. Experience: Seeking a Staff Pharmacist with hospital experience, who will have the ability to work in our hospital based prescription department.
4. Equipment: Meditech computerized physician order entry system
5. Shift Schedule: Various shifts - Hours of operation are 6a-9p. (6a-230p or 8a-430p or 1230-9p weekdays). These shifts could change to 6a-11p 7 days a week. On-Call to be determined.
6. Assignment Duration: 13 weeks
7. Start Date: 12/17/2007 or ASAP
8. Duties: We are looking for a Staff Pharmacist with hospital experience, who will have the ability to work in our hospital based prescription department. Pharmacists prepare chemotherapy (10-15 patients per weekday), verify medication orders in our Meditech computerized physician order entry system (400-500 medication orders/24 hours), check/prepare iv admixtures, check pharmacy technicians dispensing to inpatients, check technician prescription filling and counsel discharge patients in our hospital based outpatient prescription area (100-150 prescriptions/day), and do the usual pharmacokinetic calculations for vancomycin and aminoglycosides, as well as other clinical pharmacy functions (renal dose monitoring, etc). The hospital has no automated dispensing machines (eg PYXIS) at present--medications are delivered to locked nurse servers in the individual patient rooms in our Friesen design hospital--there are plans to install pyxis at a later date, maybe within 12 months. Pharmacists are department based (there are no decentralized pharmacists in ICU, etc). There is always a pharmacist on call when the pharmacy is closed, but seldom are they called in. We have an after hours medication verification contract with an outside pharmacy provider
